A curse is an attempt by a person to cause harm or misfortune to another person via supernatural means. Cursing someone would be the opposite of blessing him/her. A curse can be a ritual performed by someone, where the ritual itself causes the damage. The word 'curse' in Deuteronomy 11:26 comes from the Hebrew, 'qalah,' which is itself a derived from 'qalal,' the meaning is, to degrade, to vilify, to bring into contempt, to make wicked etc. All curses were destroyed at the cross. They lost their power over us when we came in repentance and faith to Christ. When the chastening hand of God touches our life, you can repent and quickly find freedom. God will renew you, and restore you to Himself. Some curses, however, are enforced by demons: and we need the Spirit’s discernment to recognize them. It doesn’t honor God when believers start delving unnecessarily into our pasts to look for evil influences. God has set us free in Christ, and this freedom is complete. But the Spirit may show you that there’s something in your life, which is the result of a demonically- enforced curse. If this is so, you’ll need to stand in your freedom in Christ, and enforce this against the activity of the enemy. There are several evidences, which point to the existence of demonically enforced curses. These normally operate in several members of a family or a group, and are often found over several generations. They are persistent problems, which defy medical analysis or treatment. And they seem to take on supernatural characteristics; they are not just natural events or a series of coincidences. There will normally be a whole pattern of events, not just one isolated occurrence. The following are signs that can point to the existence of a demonically enforced curse; repeated suicide attempts in many generations, repeated miscarriages, or unusual difficulties at menstruation or menopause, repeated acute sickness, mental and physical, with no clear medical diagnosis, a highly improbable rate of accidents, repeated marriage breakdowns, isolation, unforgiveness and family discord, recurrent and unnatural levels of debt and inability to make ends meet, particularly when there’s no adequate explanation for this.
Causes Of Curse
God both blesses and curses. God himself causes curse and there are many curses in the Bible which God Himself pronounces. Probably one of the most common forms of God’s judgment on disobedient people or nations is to pronounce a curse on them. And there is one supreme cause which is stated in Exodus 20:3–5. This is the first part of the Ten Commandments. “You shall have no other gods before me.” It’s not a question of having the Lord as the main god and other gods as well. He says, “I am the Lord and beside Me there is no other god.” So, we must not acknowledge any other god except the true God.
